The Underwriting Summer Internship Program at UWM provides a valuable opportunity for students interested in the financial and mortgage industry to gain practical experience in mortgage underwriting. Interns will work closely with UWM's underwriting team, learning the intricacies of assessing loan applications and gaining valuable insight into the decision-making process.
The Risk Team Summer Internship Program at UWM will allow interns to assist the Risk Management team in identifying, assessing, and mitigating various risks associated with UWM's operations. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in risk analysis, compliance, and operational assessments within the mortgage industry.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
UNDERWRITING
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Analyzing targeted data and providing actionable insights to benefit the business.
- Supporting the Underwriting Training team with various tasks and data-based projects.
- Developing and enhancing training materials for the Underwriting team.
- Conducting comprehensive risk analysis of loans through peer-to-peer audits and reviews.
- Preparing and presenting detailed reports to Senior Leadership.
- Examining hiring trends to identify patterns in overall performance and metrics of underwriters.
- Facilitating team-building and engagement activities to foster a fun, collaborative workplace.
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other products within Microsoft Suite.
- Background in statistics, auditing, or accounting.
- Strong passion for training and development, both at an individual and business level.
- Familiarity with the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
RISK TEAM
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
- Assist in conducting risk assessments and evaluations for various business operations and processes
- Support the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures
- Conduct research on industry trends and best practices related to risk management
- Help analyze data and prepare reports on risk exposures and mitigation strategies
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on risk management initiatives
- Assist in monitoring compliance with risk policies and regulatory requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned by members of the Risk team
NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a similar field
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
- Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2026 or 2027 (current junior/senior status)
- The ability to work Monday thru Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 18th - August 7th
