Handshake AI Research Intern, Summer 2026

Handshake is hiring an AI Research Intern for Summer 2026. Handshake is the career network for the AI economy, connecting more than 17 million students at 1,500+ colleges with employers to launch and grow careers. As an AI Research Intern, you'll work on cutting-edge research at the intersection of large language models, recommendation systems, search, and career matching. Responsibilities include developing and evaluating ML/AI models that improve job-to-student matching, contributing to LLM-powered features that help students navigate their career journey, conducting experiments and analyzing results, and collaborating with engineers to deploy research into production systems used by millions of students. You'll work alongside experienced AI researchers and engineers on real research problems with measurable user impact. Required qualifications: currently pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, or related field; strong foundation in ML/AI methods including modern deep learning techniques; experience with Python and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow); demonstrated research excellence through publications or projects; interest in recommendation systems, NLP, or applied ML.
