Position Summary
The Group Sales Intern role is designed to be a hands-on learning experience for students interested in sales, marketing, and event management. Interns will work directly with the Group Sales Manager at Casey's Center to gain practical knowledge of group sales strategies, customer engagement, and event promotion. This is an opportunity to explore the inner workings of a dynamic venue while developing professional skills in a supportive environment.
We’re seeking a motivated student who is eager to learn and contribute. The ideal candidate is curious, organized, and passionate about creating memorable experiences for guests.
This role is expected to last from January 12, 2026 and will end on April 13, 2026.
This role pays an hourly rate of $12.00
This position will remain open until January 31, 2026.
About the Venue
The Iowa Events Center & Casey's Center are the state’s premier convention center and arena, located in downtown Des Moines. The Iowa Events Center & Casey's Center are owned by Polk County and managed by Oak View Group.
Responsibilities
Key Learnings:
- Gain hands-on experience in group sales and event marketing at a professional sports and entertainment venue
- Exposure to CRM platforms, sales tracking tools, and Microsoft Office programs
- Develop skills through mentorship, collaboration, and networking with industry professionals
- Understand sales strategy, customer engagement, and event operations
- Contribute to real-world projects with measurable impact
- Strengthen communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
- Learn how to deliver exceptional guest experiences at large-scale events
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Management, Sports Management, Hospitality, or a related field
- Involvement in campus organizations or leadership roles
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Detail-oriented with a proactive mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
