JOB TITLE: Environmental Health & Safety Intern
HOURS: 10/week (TBD w/ student employee)
Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour
LOCATION(S): St. Paul
JOB SUMMARY:
The University of St. Thomas is accepting applications for an Environmental Health & Safety Assistant.
This position is for up to 10 hours during the academic year, flexible around student’s schedule, and continue into summer for up to 20 hours per week. Option to continue the role into future academic years.
The position assists the Director of Environmental Health & Safety in the following areas:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with preparation of annual hazardous waste generation report
- Weekly inspection & inventory of hazardous waste storage room
- Collection and transportation of materials from satellite accumulation points to hazardous waste storage room
- Inspection of rooftop fall protection equipment
- Inspections of laboratory spaces
- Updating and monitoring of asbestos inventories
- Inspection and stocking of first aid stations
- Inspection and stocking of spill response supplies
- Assist in inspections of eyewash stations in mechanical spaces
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate would be:
- A second year undergraduate sciences or engineering student
- Knowledgeable of basic chemistry (completion of freshman chemistry a minimum)
- Able to work with standard Microsoft Office software particularly Excel (required)
- Extremely detail oriented
- Customer-oriented
- Reliable and organized
- Interested in working in a dynamic, changing environment with minimal supervision
- Able to lift up to 30 pounds and handle moving carts.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
