JOB TITLE: Data & CRM Spring Intern- City of Bloomington (Jan/Feb 2025 – May 2025)

DEPARTMENT: Community Development

LOCATION: The City of Bloomington’s Port Authority DivisionPAY RATE: $20 per hourHOURS: Part-time; 20 hours/week

PRIMARY OBJECTIVEThis is a 20-hour Spring internship with opportunity to extend into a full time 12-week internship in the Summer. The City of Bloomington’s Port Authority division is seeking an individual to primarily provide essential support for the maintenance and population of the Port Authority's new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. This position will also assist the Port’s Business Assistance Team with administrative tasks, business outreach and overall project support. This position will be in-person and may be considered for a flexible work schedule upon completion of training, dependent on the needs of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESCRM Data Collection & Maintenance (65%)

  • Conduct physical inventory of storefront businesses across identified zip codes throughout Bloomington
  • Document and photograph business locations, gathering key information for CRM population
  • Perform data entry, cleanup, and updates within the CRM and related data collection spreadsheets
  • Integrate Secretary of State database information for businesses within the city.

Administrative & Project Support (35%)

  • Support the interdepartmental small business taskforce by taking meeting notes and assisting with administrative tasks
  • Assist with the design and documentation of CRM processes and workflows
  • Support Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) activities, particularly for small business outreach
  • Support implementation of communications strategy for the business assistance team
  • Assist with impact study/analysis and CRM utilization for this purpose
  • Provide project support to other division teams as capacity allows

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and ability to learn new software systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Basic photography skills for documentation purposes
  • Professional demeanor for representing the Port Authority in field work

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled as junior or senior in an undergraduate program, OR recent graduate (bachelor's degree)
  • Interest in economic development, urban planning, business, or related fields
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for field work

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Internship experience working for a City, County or State, preferably with a Port Authority, Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Economic Development Authority, planning agency, or consultant
  • Experience with CRM systems or database management
  • Familiarity with Bloomington business community
  • Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English that has a recognized presence in the community (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Cambodian, etc.)

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
