The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is offering Summer 2026 internships based in Washington, DC with remote and hybrid options. ISW is a non-partisan, non-profit, public policy research organization that advances understanding of military affairs through reliable research, trusted analysis, and innovative education. Interns receive a $1,000 monthly living stipend. Internships are available across ISW's research teams covering Russia, Ukraine, Iran, China, Africa, and other strategic theaters, as well as in operations, communications, and development. Responsibilities include conducting open-source intelligence research, drafting analytical reports on military operations and geopolitical developments, monitoring news and primary sources in multiple languages, supporting daily briefings and special projects, and contributing to ISW's published assessments that inform policymakers and the public. The internship provides unique exposure to national security analysis, geopolitical research methods, and the Washington DC policy community. Required: currently enrolled in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program; strong research, writing, and analytical skills; interest in international affairs, military history, or national security policy.
